getting to know you

I am continuing my "getting to know you" series. If you'd like to be interviewed and have your blog featured become a follower on the left side bar!

Today I am interviewing Sandy over at One Day at a Time.

How long have you been married?
I've been married for almost 21 years. We married young at 16 & 18:)

How many kids do you have? ages?
I have 6 children. Five of my own Jacob-8,Ashley-16,Jon-16(twins),Katie-17,and Anna-19 and I have an older daughter that we added to our family through foster care Samantha age- 20. We are a foster family, so we are constantly sharing our home and family with other kids:) I am also going to have my 1st grandchild next year!!!! It's a baby girl and she is due 02/01/10!!! We are so excited about this!

What are some of your hobbies?
I am in school to be a photographer. Photography is my passion. I also enjoy blogging, poetry, scrapbooking, web surfing, homeschooling, fostering, and shopping!!!!

What is your most memorable holiday?
Christmas is my favorite Holiday. It is a tough Holiday for me after the loss of my brother in 2005, but it is is still very special. It is the one time of the year that we can all be together as a family. We all go to my Mom's on Christmas eve...that's what we've always done even when I was a child. Everyone brings a dish or two and we have dinner and family time there:)

What are some of you favorite family traditions?
The one above is for sure a family tradition. On Sunday's after church my kids come home and I cook for them...we made this a new tradition after Anna married. We also made another tradition about three years ago. On Friday we have Girl's Night Out and Boy's night out. My girls(daughters & friends) and me do some activity together every Friday evening. Usually we go out to eat, shop, etc It's just a day for me to do something with my daughters and often other girls like friends or family join us.My hubby does the same thing with our son's. We have a family reunion every July. Other than that, we celebrate the 4th of July at the park every year. We also take a family trip to the beach every Sept ,but this year we've had a lot going on and wasn't able to make it.

Share with us the best/worst advice someone shared with you in regards to parenting.
My nanny is one of my greatest inspirations. She loved me unconditionally and still does. She always told me that having children was the greatest thing she ever did (and grandchildren were even better) and she told me that I was going to love being a mom and I do. She told me that when I had my children that I should enjoy every minute with them and raise them my way. She told me not to let others tell me how to raise my children, because they are my kids and that I would know their needs and care more about them then anybody else in the world. She told me to let them be little and not rush them to grow up,because they grow up fast enough. She also told me when they are little they are on your toes ,and that when they are grown they are on your heart... She was right.

Can you give us three interesting facts about you?
1-I homeschool my children 2-I am in school to be a photographer 3-I am a proud foster parent

How long have you been blogging?
Actually, this is my 2nd blog! I started blogging back in 2004. Back then, I didn't know how to add the followers application or how to become a follower to other blogs. I didn't even know know how to connect to other blogs, so that blog was only shared by word of mouth. In those three years of having that blog I decided to delete it ,because I really didn't think anyone was even reading it. But after I deleted it ,I got several emails from people who were reading my blog and enjoying it. So I was sorry that I deleted it and that gave me the inspiration to start blogging again:)

Can you leave us with your best/favorite post from your blog?
I'm not sure that I have a favorite post. Most of my post comes straight from my heart. I add what ever is on my heart or on my mind at the moment. Everyone really seems to enjoy the post "Meet My Family"http://mom2howells.blogspot.com/2009/06/meet-my-family-2009.html It tells more about my family and the things I hold dear to heart.

Be sure to head over to Sandy's blog and show her some love!

Thanks Sandy!
