Getting to know YOU!

Today we are getting to know Jenny from Home is Where You Start From.

How long have you been married?
We've been married 17 years this June, we met when we were 16.

How many children do you have? ages?
We have 4 kids, Meg age 15, Josie age 13, Demi-Sky age 10 and Amie age 8
Are you a stay at home mom or a work at home mom?
I am a stay at home mom, I homeschool our kids and a friend's son.
Do you have any hobbies?
There are many things I like to do, and many things I'd like to learn more about, but it seems like I am always so busy with the
homeschooling and day to day family/home life.  I love to read, I always have a book going, often 2 or 3 at the same time.  I enjoy yoga, waterpainting (but
haven't had time to enjoy painting for a long time now) and I was into scrapbooking, my blog has replaced scrapbooking.

What is you best memory you have of your family?
My best memory is of all of us together, at the table after dinner.  The fire is going, several of us are playing a board game together, a few of us are reading or drawing, praise
music is playing in the background.  This is a familiar scene for us, to me it says "family".

What is your favorite family vacation?
My favorite family vacation so far was our trip to Boston, Amie and Demi's very first plane trip.  We stayed with friends at a farm and visited historic Boston and Plymouth Plantation.
What are some ways you practice frugality?
I try to buy most of our groceries on sale.  We have 4 hens, so I rarely have to buy eggs.  We do not go to see movies at the theater, but wait to see them on netflix.
We will be putting solar panels on our roof this summer, so we will be saving on our electricity rates.  When Sky and I go out to eat for a date night, we share a meal.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
I am sure there are many, but the moment that comes to mind is one a few days after the birth of our 1st daughter. I had gained an epic amount of weight.  She had to stay in
special care for a week, so I was at the hospital several times a day to nurse her, I had also had a c-section.  The first day I made the trip, I asked for a wheelchair because
just walking was horribly painful.  After a wait, a volunteer brought one and as I was being seated, someone asked me if I was there to deliver.  I had to answer "no", that I was visiting my
baby who was born days ago. I had to work really hard not to cry, I had always been very thin before this.

What surprised you the most about marriage?

I am surprised most and treasure the peace and well-being I have just being with my husband.  I go to bed with a huge sense of peace and thankfulness and what I can only describe as
an "all's right with the world" feeling.

What surprised you the most about being a mom?
How much work it is, how tiring it can be and how often they are sick!  Being in charge is a strange thing, also.  I remember being at home with my newborn and being
asked if it was her nap time, or if she needed to be changed and thinking "how should I know?" - and then realizing that I have to know and that I had to figure this whole mom thing out.

What is the hardest part about being a mom for you?
The hardest part for me is hurting for them when they have been in an accident, or very sick, and having to put on a brave face and hold them down in the E.R.  All I wanted to do was cry in a corner, but I am mom and have to be certain and unafraid for my children who are looking to me and at me.

What is the most rewarding part?
Hugs, hearing "I love you", watching them learn new things and experience new things.
How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging for 4 years this July, I can't believe it has been that long!
What is your reason for blogging?
I first started blogging so extended family could have a peek into our daily family life and see what our homeschooling was all about.  In a strange twist, my family doesn't read my blog (except for my Dad), but I really enjoyed meeting people online through my blog.  I was really surprised to discover a whole online community that I did not know existed.  I also discovered a lost love of writing, so I continued my blog.  I get many visits from parents looking into homeschooling, so I see my blog as an ambassador to the homeschool lifestyle.

Can you leave us a link of your  favorite post from your blog?
